Monitoring and Control Solutions

Monitoring and controlling a data center requires solutions that ensure a functioning infrastructure and provide transparency about the data.

Large amounts of energy are consumed every day in order to make the many data stored in a data center available at any time. WAGO Energy Data Management processes measurement data from different media, along with influencing variables for energy monitoring, further analysis, archiving and reporting. The software automatically detects different signals from the connected meters and sensors, making them available to additional energy analysis tools via simple parameter settings. Depending on whether it is a new or existing system, different WAGO products are available for energy data collection.
In colocation data centers, cost centers must be established and made available monthly as energy metrics. WAGO’s MID Series Energy Meters allow you to record and bill individual racks or rental areas and assign customers in the form of cost centers.

Cooling accounts for a large portion of the total cost of ownership in the data center. It is required to protect the countless servers and systems from overheating. The electricity consumed by the air-conditioning systems in the data centers is mainly generated by the motors that drive the compressors and blowers. Our HVAC technology helps you keep your servers cool.

In addition to a functioning cooling system, efficient lighting management is also an important component of a functioning and sustainable data center infrastructure. With WAGO Lighting Management, you integrate intelligent lighting control into your data center.

By integrating the WAGO control systems, you unite and centralize all building systems together, significantly improving the efficiency, availability and security of your data center operations. The temperature or humidity in the server rooms can be monitored and, if adaptation is necessary, measures such as cooling can be implemented quickly.

Data centers use a wide variety of technologies to view and control the status and consumption of their server racks at any time.

Different circuits are often used in server rooms to prevent failures. The state of the rooms is detected, for example, via temperature and humidity sensors, and cooling or heating is controlled as needed. This allows parameters such as the water flow rate from the cooling water to be reliably measured, so that problems can be quickly addressed.

But how does this information get to the building control system? This is where the WAGO controller is used. It functions as a gateway and forwards the information. If necessary, the information is converted from another protocol to Modbus TCP so that the control system can process the information and trigger actions such as an alarm. Different manufacturers with different bus protocols can be monitored – throughout the entire data center.

In addition, you can record the status of the main switch in the server cabinet via the WAGO controller. If this is triggered, the information can be passed on and the problem resolved in a timely manner. This not only checks the spatial characteristics of the servers, but also each function of an individual server.

Energy measurement of individual server racks for exact billing of energy consumption per customer can be implemented with WAGO products. Current transformers convert the current from the server racks and transmit it to the WAGO MID Energy Meters via a terminal block. The recorded values of the meter then go to the billing system, which bills the individual racks or rental areas and can assign the customers in the form of cost centers.

The reaction time must be such that the heating of the components through which current flows does not lead to damage.
