Try It Out Faster

With MTP, plant operators command greater flexibility in production configuration.

In the process industry, the “50% rule” is a basic principle. When chemical companies or pharmaceutical manufacturers manage to halve the time from decision on a new product, through plant construction and up to commissioning, staking a substantial budget makes sense. Faster market access justifies higher investment in system technology – from laboratory straight to production: This works best with standard components that can be ordered from stock and rapidly assembled. What has seemed straightforward until now always met its limits in the software engineering and system integration phases. If, however, the off-the-shelf modules are equipped with the “Module Type Package” all the advantages of modularization reach into programming as well.

Your Benefits:

  • Faster plant design and construction
  • Simple module integration at the process management level
  • No more bottlenecks in programming the control level
  • Easy conversion for product changes

Easier Reconstruction and Modernization

As process plants age, the time for modernization comes closer. And if production lots change, the process technology must economically adapt to the changed quantities. In either case, the consequence is reconstruction. Nowadays, the major challenge is less in the physical piping and steelwork; far more is it in the integration into process control, up to the visualization. This is where modules with an MTP integration interface make it possible to modify plants without any time-consuming adaptation of the complex process control technology. Because the “Module Type Package” is effectively comparable to a printer driver in the IT realm, it circumvents reprogramming in the SCADA systems. Everything is defined in the MTP and described with uniform interfaces.

Continuous Improvement and Status Monitoring

Integrating datapoints in the process management level costs money. Each additional signal in the process controls inevitably raises the question of its economic benefits. With the “Module Type Package” this question is moot; all available data and services are available via a uniform interface to every module through their MTP. This transparency allows comparisons and trend analyses applicable to continuous process improvement (CPI) as well as status-oriented monitoring. As a result, it is much easier to incorporate additional sensors into the system – even if their tasks go beyond the actual process.
