Functionality and Safety for the Control Cabinet
With the WAGO I/O System 750

Functional Safety with the WAGO I/O System 750

The WAGO I/O SYSTEM 750 is distinguished by its universal use and extensive product portfolio. With more than 500 different modules, it is versatile and flexible. WAGO also offers a wide range of products for functionally safe applications with analog and digital signals.

The functionally safe modules of the WAGO I/O System 750 require little space due to their compact design and offer a high signal density on a small footprint. Thanks to its flexible design, the system integrates different standard Ex i and PROFIsafe technologies in one setup. The color coding enables clear identification of the different technologies.

PROFIsafe

The PROFIsafe modules offer simple diagnostics and service options. The system relies on standard diagnostics according to the PROFIBUS® and PROFINET specifications. Using iPar server technology, device replacement is simple and requires no tooling. In addition, the modules can be parameterized via the WAGO Safety Editor (SEDI). They can be used in safety functions up to SIL 3 as well as PLe/Cat. 4 and fulfill the EN IEC 13849 and EN ISO 62061 safety standards. In addition, the modules can be used in safety applications for the process industry according to IEC 61511.

WAGO Safety products allow customers to implement safety applications from SIL 2 / Cat. 2 PL d to SIL 3 / Cat. 4 PL e!

Offline Parameterization via GSD in PROFINET®

Offline parameterization allows you to parameterize your safety modules using the device description in PROFINET®. This lets you easily create your safety application offline and duplicate it on similar machines.

When the application restarts, the offline parameters automatically transfer to the modules. This makes device replacement possible at any time, even without tooling!

The “Tool Calling Interface” (TCI) is a standard interface for the PROFIBUS® and PROFINET® user organizations. It provides direct access to the product’s parameterization from the engineering system. TCI also allows an existing control system’s communication structures to be used.

Offline parameterization via GSD allows the creation of the system configuration on a desktop.

New Products

Implement Safety Applications Without a Safety Controller

New safety modules can be operated with WAGO controllers.

WAGO’s new safety modules now enable users to implement safety applications, such as two-hand operation or door locking, without the need for a separate safety controller. The logic modules can be used downstream of WAGO controllers and couplers, resulting in faster reaction times at the lowest field level because communication via the fieldbus is eliminated.

The safety logic is configured using the new Safety Editor. Thanks to the logic modules, a machine can now be implemented with WAGO controllers, such as the PFC, including a safety application.

Another advantage: The module can also be integrated behind a safety controller via PROFIsafe. This enables faster safety response times and allows for the creation of more compact safety applications.

Your Benefits:

  • Cost-effective solution for safety applications
  • Can be used without a safety controller
  • Faster safety response time, since the logic is executed directly in the module

New Functions for the Safety Modules

  • Offline parameterization in PROFINET®
  • PROFIsafe V2.6 in PROFINET®
  • Additionally PROFIsafe V2.4 in PROFINET® and PROFIBUS DP
  • Channel-by-channel passivation in both PROFIsafe V2.4 and V2.6

The WAGO I/O System 750's safety modules meet the requirements of the latest PROFIsafe industrial Ethernet standard version 2.6, along with those of version 2.4. Configuration and parameterization of the modules are now also possible offline in PROFINET®.

Offline parameterization allows you to parameterize your safety modules using the device description in PROFINET®. This lets you easily create your safety application offline and duplicate it on similar machines. When restarting the application, the offline parameters automatically transfer to the modules. This makes device replacement possible at any time, even without tooling!

Safety applications up to SIL 3 and PLe/Cat. 4 are much easier and faster to implement.

The safety modules meet the EN IEC 13849 and EN ISO 62061 safety standards and can be used in safety applications for the process industry per IEC 61511. The modules are available in different combinations of inputs and outputs with four or eight channels and fit seamlessly into the WAGO I/O System 750. The engineering can also be handled with the usual tools.

Your Benefits:

  • Faster commissioning through offline parameterization via GSD
  • Easy, tool-free module replacement
  • Safe channel-specific acknowledgment
  • Channel status in the cyclic process image

Customer Applications

The Galvanizer – Protection against Corrosion

Zinc helps extend the life of metal products enormously. It reliably protects steel from corrosion – galvanized components don’t rust, because zinc and iron form an inseparable bond – the ferrozinc alloy. However, this method employs poisonous and potentially explosive gas atmospheres at high temperatures. Therefore, it requires a quite sophisticated process control system to guarantee safety. The task of constantly refining these systems falls to Surtec Research and their hot-dip simulators. The engineers from Falk Steuerungssysteme GmbH use the compact, highly integrated WAGO 750 I/O SYSTEM in the automation systems for the simulators.

Faster Modular Device Adaptation

The PROFINET IO Fieldbus Coupler from WAGO can save you a lot of time when engineering and configuring your devices. By using the variable peripheral configuration function – an innovative approach to handling options – you can program software once and then implement different variants with minimal effort.
