WAGO Edge Devices (IPC)

With edge computing, users can put cloud functionality right on the machine and benefit from a seamless connection between IT and OT. WAGO offers a broad portfolio of high-performance edge controllers and edge computers to meet higher performance and speed requirements with an industrial PC.

The Benefits for You:

  • High computing power
  • Easy cloud connection
  • High security standards

Optimal Data Utilization with Edge Computing

Edge devices process applications right on the machine, offloading them from controllers so they can focus on their actual control duties with low latency and a high level of determinism.

Data transfer from machines and systems directly to a cloud solution is often too resource-intensive, and the low latency required in industrial environments makes it infeasible. Edge computing combines the advantages of decentralized cloud architectures with those of a local network architecture and has become an established approach.

The data collected from machines and systems can be evaluated directly on the edge devices, displayed graphically and made available to a cloud. These devices ensure optimal transfer for particularly critical data and offer an additional option for flexible system design in complex applications.

The Right Edge Device for Your Application

The broad portfolio of industrial PCs offers you maximum performance and flexibility in different applications. Whether in mechanical engineering, the energy industry, the process industry or the marine sector – WAGO offers the right hardware for every edge application.

WAGO Edge Controller 400

WAGO offers solutions with the Edge Controller 400, which is tailored to the Linux®-based, real-time-capable ctrlX OS technology. The devices require little space, can be easily integrated into existing systems and process applications directly on the machine. Using ctrlX app technology, the Edge Controller 400 can be flexibly adapted to the specific task.

The Benefits for You:

  • Control and data processing in one device
  • With ctrlX OS – the Linux®-based operating system
  • IoT-ready thanks to MQTT and OPC UA
  • Comprehensive app selection for ctrlX

Overview of Benefits

Easy Cloud Connection

The collected data can be evaluated directly and displayed graphically. Transfer may be appropriate for especially critical data, for instance.

Equipped for High Security

A TPM 2.0 chip allows an encryption mechanism to be used. Besides the standard VPN applications, the devices are open for special security solutions such as Tosibox and Hooc.

Pre-Installed Debian Linux

Our Edge Computers come with pre-installed Debian Linux for straightforward commissioning. You benefit from quick and easy integration into your application.

Optimal Performance in Tight Spaces

Maximum computing power and performance in a compact form: WAGO Edge Computers offer impressive performance with minimal space requirements and are easy to mount on DIN-rails.

Quick and easy deployment of Docker® containers

Container virtualization via Docker® allows you to isolate applications from a local infrastructure and makes software provision faster, easier and more secure. Interested in exploiting the benefits of Docker® more easily with edge computing?

In the video, Jonathan Malessa, Team Leader for the OPC Router at inray, and Michael Drost, WAGO System Consultant for Industry, show how you can run the WAGO PFC200 Controller together with the OPC Router as a Docker® container on a single WAGO Edge Computer. The OPC Router no longer needs to be installed on its own dedicated server in the network – it’s simply deployed as a Docker® container on the Edge Computer and is executable immediately.

The advantages of this solution are obvious: In addition to hardware costs, it eliminates the need for installation, maintenance, updates and security. Have a look!

Marine and Onshore/Offshore Automation

Use in these areas requires assessment and qualification by independent classification societies (e.g., ABS, GL, LR). More than half of the 20 tests administered relate to EMC. The results achieved from these tests permit operation on marine diesel engines exposed to vibrations and in the EMC-sensitive area of a vessel’s bridge (compass approval). Of course, these properties also mean they can be used in other industries at no additional cost.
