Joint Project

Digitization with IIoT: Data Acquisition, Processing and Evaluation

To address challenges like resource scarcity, climate change and higher operating costs in industry, WAGO and Endress+Hauser launched a joint digitization project. The result: an I/O solution that can be customized for brownfield projects. Our WAGO PFC200, the WAGO Compact Controller 100 and the WAGO IoT Box were installed as gateways. Endress+Hauser provided the measurement technology and enabled visualization of the measurement data via a digital service from Netilion Network Insights. Netilion Network Insights provides transparency about processes and makes it easy to create records and documentation.

One example comes from water resource management: In a project for the water supply of the city of Oberzent in Hesse, a complete scalable solution was able to provide transparency, all the way from water extraction to water distribution. This approach can also be used to implement other industrial solutions, such as verification of wastewater quality in beer production.

Constantly recording information about the condition of a system and the necessary maintenance measures enables proactive, long-term action and efficient operation.

In the digitization solution that WAGO and Endress+Hauser developed together, the challenge lay in integrating remote signals into the cloud-based Netilion platform. This is essential, so that operators can have an up-to-date overview of the technical status of the external stations at all times without being on site. Endress+Hauser uses the Netilion Network Insights service, a solution for municipal and industrial customers, who have high demands on the monitoring of distributed measuring points. Users can view the real measured values on a mobile phone, a tablet or any Web browser, regardless of the platform, and can also view and analyze completed reports, charts and KPIs. A wide variety of analysis functions can be used to efficiently optimize process measures and maintenance concepts for the long term.

In the solution, the WAGO PFC200 components, the Compact Controller 100 and the WAGO IoT Box take over the tasks of recording the various forms of field data from different measuring devices via a wide range of interfaces and processing the measurement data locally, so it can be made available to the Netilion cloud for further processing and evaluation. The result is a fully scalable hardware solution for implementing system-specific project requirements.

Our WAGO PFC200 components, the Compact Controller 100 and the WAGO IoT Box as a gateway, in combination with Endress+Hauser measurement technology, complete the solution.

The construction kits with the WAGO PFC 200 from the 750 Series offer a modular hardware structure, so the modules can be selected individually. The WAGO Compact Controller 100 is ideal for compact control applications in smaller projects with low measurement data volumes. The WAGO IoT Box completes the concept. The customer receives a fully wired solution for their specific project requirements; all that’s left to do is install and connect it on site. This approach involves an intelligent IoT gateway, which is used as an OT/IT link in this solution.

Continuous development in the context of various legal regulations, sustainability initiatives and optimization projects has proven that this approach has the necessary flexibility and provides clear added value for the user.

WAGO IoT Box

The company of the future will be one thing above all else: thoroughly networked. Anything not connected to the IT system must be integrated eventually, especially in production. Many companies are not yet prepared for this, and their machines and systems are inherently incapable of transmitting data. This is exactly where the WAGO IoT Box makes a difference.
